December 31, 2002

• The Fort Dodge Messenger recently printed a photo of the construction crew raising the rafters for the shell of Rolfe's new community center building. According to Sue Reigelsberger of the Rolfe Enrichment committee, the framing job began on December 31. The Messenger also carried a feature article about the building project.

December 31, 2002

• Added an obituary for Rolfe resident Ralph Scott. Mr. Scott was awarded two Purple Hearts for his service during WWII in the Pacific.

December 27, 2002

• We don't usually post health announcements about Rolfe residents or alumni, nor do we normally post a request for prayer. However, this is an exception.
    
  Marion Gunderson of Rolfe called today to tell us that Randy Martin had a heart attack earlier this week. Randy is a 1975 graduate of Rolfe High School and is our web site administrator. He has invested a lot of himself in the site on a pro bono basis.
    
  We called Dana, the wife of one of Randy's computer colleagues. She said that Randy's wife Kim (Zeman, class of 1976) had called and told her about Randy's heart attack. Dana explained that Randy and Kim were in Rolfe visiting their families for Christmas. Randy felt ill the day before Christmas and went to the hospital where he had the heart attack. He then received medical help at a Fort Dodge hospital. Dana says Kim anticipates that Randy and their family will be able to return to Colorado within a few days.
   
  Dana also said that Kim asked for prayers for Randy. So whatever your spiritual leaning in a time such as this (saying a prayer, stopping for a moment of silence, sending good energy, writing a card or e-mail note), we ask for your support for Randy's speedy and full recovery and the well-being of his family. Thanks.

• We apologize for not being up to date in posting obituaries, but our focus has been on other projects. We hope to set aside time soon to post the information.

• We've heard of the recent deaths of Rose Calligan, Louise Thorson, and Alan John Zeman and will post their obituaries in the near future.
    

• We've added a joke that Bruce Beckord (class of 1961) sent us that we simply couldn't resist posting. Sorry if any blondes are offended.

• We've read of the death of Phyllis Pedersen Peterson (RHS class of 1964) and have posted her obituary. Among other things, Phyllis was a member of the Polka Dots trio that regrouped and performed at the 1990 All-Class Reunion. A recording of the group singing the "Muskrat Ramble" can be found in the audio gallery. Go to the gallery, scroll down to the 1990 reunion, and click on the Polka Dots name.

• We've read of the deaths of Thelma Ham and Leona Henderson and have posted their obituaries in the memorial section.
    

• We've posted an article from the Pocahontas Record-Democrat about Stuart Webb (RHS class of 1949) who recently was honored by the American Bar Association for his creation and promotion of the Collaborative Law Initiative.

• We've three new images in the year 2001 photo gallery as well as an explanation of the above photo. You may click on the photo for a larger version of the scene.

• We've also added two new images to the inventory of notecards available for purchase of Rolfe scenes.

August 19, 2002      

• We've posted a note about how Iowa is the lowest paid state in the nation when it comes to Medicare payments. We also included a link to a web site that tells about the problem and includes a petition for you to make your voice heard about the matter.

• We've posted a link to an order form so interested people can order the tapestry throws the Rolfe Enrichment committee is selling to raise money for the new community center.
    

• We've posted a report on the RHS class of 1977 reunion as well as an article announcing that Janice Young (class of 1958) recently attended a Municipal Clerks Academy.

August 11, 2002      

• We've heard of the death of Pat Irwin who was married to John Irwin who at one time was the pastor of the Rolfe Presbyterian Church. If we get an obituary for Pat, we will post it.
    

• We've posted some opinion pieces (by non-Rolfe persons) that we thought visitors to this web site might appreciate.
