DANIEL B. ZUETLAU

Rolfe  -- Daniel E. Zuetlau, age 79, died on Thursday, September 26, 2002, at the Pocahontas Community Hospital in Pocahontas, Iowa.

Funeral services were held at the Powers Funeral Home in Rolfe on Monday, September 30, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. David Peterson officiating. Interment was in LuVerne Cemetery in LuVerne.

Survivors include his sons, Dean (Missy) Zuetlau and Curt (Mary) Zeutlau, both of Pocahontas and Bruce (Sally) Bass of Thorton, Colorado: daughters, Rose Hatteburg of Algona, Debra Zuetlau of Whittemore, and Annie Thomas of Detroit, Michigan; twelve grandchildren: six great-grandchildren: and sisters, Fern Brown of Shelbina, Missouri, and Reita (Otto) Ziesman of Algona. Daniel was preceded in death by his parents, wives, granddaugher, DeDe Lilly, five brothers, and four sisters.

Daniel Emil Zuetlau was born on May 10, 1923, at LuVerne. He was the son of Emil A. and Martha (Klinke) Zuetlau. Daniel was educated in LuVerne Schools. Daniel enlisted in the U. S. Army, and served in the Pacific Theater during World War II. After his discharge, Daniel moved to the Fort Dodge area. In 1947, he married Joan Stockwell at Fort Dodge. The couple made their home in Badger. Joan died in 1969. In 1971, Daniel married Betty Tierney at Fort Dodge. The couple made thier home in Laurens and moved to Rolfe in 1978. Betty died in 1991, and Daniel has continued to make his home in Rolfe. Daniel was a truck driver for M. & J. R. Hakes in Laurens for many years, until he retired in the mid 1970’s. Daniel was a life member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. He was a former member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. In his spare time, Daniel enjoyed hunting, fishing, and coin collecting. He especially enjoyed driving around the area sightseeing for wildlife.
