BETTY KNOLL Laurens — Betty Knoll, age 81, of Laurens, died Tuesday, November 5, 2002, at the Good Samaritan Center in Laurens. Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 11, at the United Methodist Church in Laurens, with the Rev. Tony Pulatie officiating. Graveside services were 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 11, at the Charter Oak Cemetery in Charter Oak. Survivors include her daughters, Kay (Curtis) Larabell of Tempe, Arizona, and Jane (Keith) Freeman of Oceanside, California; grandchildren, Kelli Freeman and Scott Scholtz; and a sister Shirley Strickland of Cleveland, Tennessee. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Sterling; grandson, David Scholtz, and a sister, Donna Steck. Helen Elizabeth “Betty” Knoll was born February 10, 1921, at Battle Creek, Iowa. She was the daughter of Otto and Edna (Petersmeyer) Hoefer. She graduated from Charter Oak High School in 1939 and from Morningside College in Sioux City. On January 8, 1946, Betty married Sterling Knoll at Charter Oak. The couple lived in Humboldt, Battle Creek, and Laurens. Betty taught English, speech, and drama at Charter Oak, Albert City, and Rolfe. Sterling died in 1985. Betty was a member of the United Methodist Church, U.M.W., and Eastern Star. She especially enjoyed drama and was active with the Laurens Community Theater.
