A
Portrait of Main Street Pocahontas
In the
early 1990s, Ruth Ahlrichs, director of the Pocahontas
Public Library, had a vision for producing a video about the
town, focusing on the history of its Main Street district. She
had already done a lot of research and collected old
photographs. Then in 1992, she contacted Helen Gunderson, who grew up on a
farm between Rolfe and Pocahontas, and they collaborated to
conduct oral history interviews and produce the program, which
is based on those interviews. It was supported in part by a grant from the Iowa
Humanities Board.

All-class Reunion
At the evening program of the 2005 RHS all-class reunion,
the community band accompanied a large crew of cheerleaders and the

A
Collection of Home Movies and Video
In 2008
when Deane Gunderson (RHS 1935) celebrated his 90th
birthday, one of his daughters, Helen Gunderson, edited home movies and
videos for the celebration. He died on July 1, 2010. Helen's vision was that the clips would not
focus Deane specifically but show him in the context of his farm, family, friends,
and the Rolfe community and allow others a view not only of Deane but
perhaps of themselves. |

1970s Rolfe movies
From
about 1972 to 1973, Helen Gunderson filmed Super8 movies in
Rolfe and the nearby area. Then in February 2012, she made this
10-minute YouTube video, editing digital transfers of the
footage and adding music. There are scenes of
Rolfe's highly successful girls basketball, homecoming parades,
the public swimming pool, and a bit of other fun. |
