ROGER VanGORKOM

Cassville, Missouri — Roger Allen VanGorkom, age 63, of Cassville, Mo. passed away Sunday, August 28, 2005, in Cox Medical Center South, Springfield, Mo. Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 31, 2005, in Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville, Mo. The Rev. Rodney VanGorkham and Brother Mike Renfrow conducted the services. Burial was in Maplewood Cemetery, Exeter, Mo.

Roger Allen VanGorkom was born Apri1 5, 1942, in Fort Dodge. Iowa, the son of Edward and Edna (Wiegert) VanGorkom. On Dec. 9, 1966, in Fort Dodge, he was united in marriage to Peggy Andrews, who survives. He is also survived by four sons, the Rev. Rodney VanGorkom of Neosho, Mo., David VanGorkom Cassville, Mo., Craig Warden and Kent Warden of the state of Nebraska; three daughters, Rhonda Thomas of Purdy, Mo., Robyn Nance of Cassville, Mo., and Jann Dibbens of the state of Nebraska; one brother Donald VanGorkom of Rolfe, Iowa; one sister Annella Fritz of Raytown Mo.; and eight grandchildren.

Roger received his education in Iowa. In 1983 he moved to Cassville, Mo., from Monroe, Iowa. He owned and operated Country Processing in Cassville and had been a butcher since he was 16 years old. He was an avid sports fan, especially the Cubs and the Chiefs.

Roger attended elementary school in Rolfe then transferred to Des Moines Township for his junior high and early high school years. He returned to Rolfe in his junior year of high school, when the Rolfe and DMT schools consolidated, and was a member of the RHS class of 1961.

Roger was preceded in death by his father, Edward VanGorkom, who was a 1934 graduate of Rolfe.
