EDWARD VAN GORKOM

Edward Van Gorkom, 86, of Rolfe, died Tuesday, February 13, 2001, at the Pocahontas Manor in Pocahontas. Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 16 at the First Lutheran Church in Gilmore City with the Rev. Ray Block officiating. Burial was in Clinton-Garfield Cemetery near Rolfe.

Survivors include daughter Annella (Jerry) Fritz of Raytown, Missouri; sons, Roger (Peggy) Van Gorkom of Cassville, Missouri, and Don (Linda) Van Gorkom of Pocahontas; seven grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Edna, brother, Bill Van Gorkom, and sister, Cora Jones.

Edward Van Gorkom. was born September 22, 1914, at Corsica, South Dakota. He was the son of Isaac and Nellie (Kunefke) Van Gorkom. He graduated from Geddes High School in Geddes, South Dakota, in 1932. On December 30, 1937, Ed married Edna Wiegert at Fort Dodge. The couple lived in the Gilmore City and Rolfe area where they farmed until retiring in 1982. Edna died in 1998. In March of 2000, Ed entered the Pocahontas Manor Care Center.

Ed was a member of the First Lutheran Church. He enjoyed farming and gardening. He especially enjoyed his grand and great grandchildren.
