VELMA G. POHL

Velma Genevieve Brock was born on July 5, 1920, near Rolfe. She was the daughter of George and Emma (Ferden) Brock. Velma graduated from Fort Dodge High School in 1938. She worked for a short time at Bell Telephone in Fort Dodge. On February 17, 1941, Velma married Lloyd Pohl at Pocahontas. The couple made their home on a farm near Fonda. While Lloyd served in the armed forces, Velma made her home with her parents. After Lloyd’s discharge, they moved to a farm near Rolfe. They made their home on farms at Spencer then Curlew, before retiring to Rolfe in 1991. 

Velma was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and the WELCA. She had served as a Sunday School teacher and secretary for the WELCA and her Circle. Velma enjoyed sewing, crocheting, quilting, baking, tending her flowers in her spare time, and fishing.

Survivors include her husband: Lloyd: daughter: Joyce Jensen of Des Moines; son: Jerry (Sue) Pohl of Des Moines; granddaughters: Laura Huinker of Marion and Samantha Pohl of Ankeny; great-grandchildren: Matthew Point and Melissa Point of Marion and sisters, Beverlee (Lloyd) Constance of Warsaw, MO and Barbara (Marvin) Mericle of Prairie Creek, IN. 

Velma was preceded in death by her parents, grandson, Christopher Holmes and sister, Arlene Engelman.

FUNERAL: Tuesday September 22, 2009, 10:30 AM at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Rolfe, IA 

VISITATION: Monday September 21, 2009, 5:00 - 7:00 PM at Powers Funeral Home, Rolfe, Iowa
