JOHN E. "JOHNNIE" LOSS Rolfe - John E. "Johnnie" Loss, age 82, died on March 29, 2003, at Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Funeral services were held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Rolfe on Wednesday, April 2, 2003, at 10:30 a.m., with Rev. David Peterson officiating. Graveside military rites were by Cecil Cummings Post #25 of the Rolfe American Legion at the interment at Clinton-Garfield Cemetery in Rolfe. Survivors include his wife Inez of Rolfe; children, Janis Hanson of Pocahontas, Joann Grove of Minnetonka, Minnesota, Jerry Loss of Laurens, and Larry (Deb) Loss of Westminster, Colorado; ten grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister Mildred Pentecost of Algona. Johnnie was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law Lowell Hanson, and sister Rosella Loss. John Edward Loss was born on March 30, 1920, near Algona. He was the son of John and Rosella (Kramer) Loss. Johnnie was educated in Algona schools. After he completed his education, he worked in the Algona area. During World War II, he served in the U. S. Army in the European Theater. On April 17, 1943, Johnnie married Inez Opheim at Dakota, Minnesota. After his discharge from the service, the couple settled in Rolfe. Johnnie owned and operated Loss Refrigeration, a commercial refrigeration business, until he semi-retired in the mid 1990's. He remained active in the business even after he retired. Johnnie was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, the American Legion, and the V. F. W. He spent 25 years on the Rolfe Fire Department, with several years as the chief, and two terms of the Rolfe City Council. Johnnie enjoyed pheasant hunting, fishing, carpentry work, and in later years, tending his garden.
