Obituary WILLIAM J. BRINKMAN William J. Brinkman, age 83, died on August 7, 2000, at Pocahontas, Iowa. Funeral services were held at the Shared Ministry of Rolfe on August 10. Burial was in the Clinton-Garfield Cemetery at Rolfe. William Jewett Brinkman was born on April 16, 1917, at Rolfe. He was the son of John and Carrie (Jewett) Brinkman. Bill was educated in Rolfe schools, graduating from Rolfe High School in 1934. He owned and operated the Standard Oil station in Rolfe until he sold it and enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. On June 9, 1943, Bill married Dorothy Schaefer at Schaller. During World War II, Bill served in the Pacific Theater in the Marshall Islands. After his discharge, he and Dorothy returned to Rolfe. Bill bought the Standard Oil station and operated it until 1957, when he bought the Chevrolet garage. He operated Brinkman Auto until 1986, when he retired. Bill entered the Rolfe Care Center in January of 1998. Bill was a member of the Shared Ministry, formerly the Presbyterian Church. He was active in the church, serving as a trustee and elder. Bill belonged to the American Legion, the Lions Club, the Masonic Lodge and the Rolfe Golf Club. He was a very active businessman in Rolfe, serving the community while he was able. Survivors include his wife: Dorothy Brinkman of Rolfe; daughter: Mary Ann (Joseph) Clinton of Edina, MN; son: John (Marcia) Brinkman of Ballwin, MO, and grandchildren, Megan, Michelle and Caitlin Clinton and Dan, Jake and Stacy Brinkman. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, brother, John Halleck Brinkman and sisters, Helen Scrivner and Eloise Perdue.
