ALTHEA WILLIAMS

POCAHONTAS - Althea Marie Williams, age 81 of Pocahontas went to be with the Lord December 25, 2008, in the Hospice Center in Pocahontas Community Hospital following a brief illness with cancer.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the St. Peter Lutheran Church in Pocahontas, with Rev. Dave Grindberg officiating. Burial will be in Summit Hill Cemetery in Pocahontas. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Powers Funeral Home in Pocahontas.

Althea Marie McCullough was born March 29, 1927 at Paton, IA. She was the daughter of Lyle S. and Mabel I. (Burton) McCullough who affectionately called her "Sister". Althea graduated from Rolfe High School in 1946. On May 25, 1946 Althea married Elvern R. DeWall at Rolfe. The couple made their home in Rolfe and Grand Meadow MN. To this union 7 children were born. Elvern died on November 21, 1952 and the family moved to Pocahontas. On March 15, 1956, Althea married Raymond A. Williams at Webster City. The couple made their home and farmed southeast of Pocahontas. To this union 4 children were added to the family. The couple retired from farming in 1986.

Althea was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, WELCA, and the H&B Club and she was a Past General Circles Board Chairwoman. In addition to raising 11 children, Althea enjoyed gardening, bowling, sightseeing trips, playing cards and board games and watching all sports on TV, especially the Cubs and Hawkeyes. Althea's greatest joy was spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Althea is survived by her husband Raymond of 52 years. Children Linda (Bob) Eshleman, Tallahassee FL; Lois Theiler, Woodbridge, VA; Lorretta (Dennis) Callon, Rolfe, IA; Raymond (Arlene) DeWall, Pocahontas, IA; George (Janice) DeWall, Glenwood, IA; Larry DeWall, Perry, IA; Alice DeWall, Emmetsburg, IA; Norman (Carol) Williams, Havelock, IA; Diane (Michael) Mahn, Auburn, IA; Roger (Kirsten) Williams, Fort Dodge, IA; Nancy Williams, San Antonio, TX; 25 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

Althea was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Elvern, son-in-law, Fred Theiler, two brothers and three sisters.
