FRIEDA THORSON

Rolfe — Frieda Thorson, age 98, of Rolfe, died Monday, June 11, 2001, at the Rolfe Care Center. Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 14, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Rolfe with the Rev. David Peterson officiating. Burial was in Clinton-Garfield Cemetery near Rolfe. She is survived by a brother Virgil Thorson of Forest City. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Mayme Ives and Ruth Thorson, and brothers, Melvin and Lester Thorson.

Frieda Thorson was born August 11, 1902, six miles northwest of Rolfe on the Majorowicz farm. She was the daughter of Thomas and Ida (Uhr) Thorson. Frieda was educated in country schools' and was graduated from D.M.T. High School in 1922. She attended business school in Fort Dodge and was employed by a photographic studio in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Her fiancé was killed in World War II. In 1943, Frieda moved to Fort Dodge, where she lived with her mother and sister, Ruth, and was employed at Peterson Photography doing photo tinting. In 1946, she returned to Rolfe and did photo tinting by mail. She was later employed at the Gift Galley.

Frieda and her sister Ruth maintained their home in Rolfe until July 1992, when she entered the Rolfe Care Center. Frieda was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and her Church Circle. She also enjoyed tending her flowers and made chalk and pencil drawings of flowers which she gave to each of her family members.
