GARTH E. SROUFE

ROLFE — Garth E. Sroufe, age 82, of Rolfe, died on Monday, Nov. 20, 2006, at the Pocahontas Manor.

Graveside services are 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 25 at the Clinton-Garfield Cemetery at Rolfe, with Larry Pedersen officiating. Visitation and lunch with Garth’s family will be from noon until 2 p.m. Saturday at the Rolfe Community Building. The Powers Funeral Home in Rolfe is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made out to The Pocahontas County Hospice.

Garth Edward Sroufe was born on May 30, 1924, at Wesley. He was the son of Albert and Laona (Ball) Sroufe. Garth graduated from Rolfe High School in 1942. He served in the US Navy from May 1943 until May 1946. On June 26, 1948, Garth married Lois Jane Myers at Des Moines. The couple made their home in Des Moines until 1949, when they moved to Rolfe. Garth took over the Standard Oil Bulk Truck business from his father. He later worked for the Petroleum Division of the Rolfe Co-op. After he retired from the Co-op, Garth worked part time for the Buske Family Tow Truck Business in Pocahontas. Lois died on April 7, 1990, and Garth continued to make his home in Rolfe. He entered the Pocahontas Manor in August of this year.

Garth was a big NASCAR fan of Jeff Gordon. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed fishing at Five Island Lake in Emmetsburg. He loved to host and cook family dinners. Garth was a fan of all Iowa sports, but leaned towards the Hawks on game day.

Survivors include his children: Marc (Pam) Sroufe of Mt. Pleasant, MI, Diane (Ronald) Deal of Morovia, and Albert (Rhonda) Sroufe of Rolfe; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and brother Larry (Janet) Sroufe of Chandler, AZ.

Garth was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Lois, four sisters, and one brother.
