LOIS K. SPENCER

ROLFE — Lois K. Spencer, age 80, died on April 26, 2006, at the Pocahontas Community Hospital.

Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 29 at the Shared Ministry in Rolfe, with Pastor Charles Miller officiating. Burial was in Clinton-Garfield Cemetery at Rolfe. Visitation was one hour prior to the services at the church. Powers Funeral Home of Rolfe was in charge of arrangements.

Lois was born on Aug. 4, 1925, the daughter of Claus and Frances (Minnich) Flick in Tripp, South Dakota. She attended school in Scotland, S.D., through the tenth grade at which time her family moved to Laurens. Lois graduated with the Laurens High School Class of 1943. Lois furthered her education at the National Business College in Sioux City. Upon her graduation, she was employed by the Laurens State Bank. Lois married Ronald William Spencer on Jan. 11, 1948, in the Laurens Methodist Church. They lived on a farm in the Rolfe area and were engaged in farming until Ron passed away in 1977. After Ron’s death, Lois moved into Rolfe, where she resided until her death. Her favorite pastimes included crossword puzzles, bird watching, playing cards and spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her son, Bruce Spencer of Correctionville; daughter Barbara (Tim) Ahlrichs of Pocahontas; grandchildren, Greg and Laura, and Wendy and Ron; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Dorothy (Frank) Gross of Blair, Neb., and Ruth Adams of Walnut Grove, Calif.; and sisters-in-law, Betty Spencer, Eden Spencer, Alice Spencer, Maxine Dietrich and Garland Flick. Lois was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother.

Lois was a lifetime member of the Methodist Church and the Women’s Society. She was also active in the American Legion Auxiliary and the American Home Study Club.
