EDGAR NORMAN SMITH Cedar Falls — Edgar Norman Smith. age 86, died Sunday, April 1 , 2007, at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls. Services were held on Wednesday, April 4, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Cedar Falls, with the Rev. Dr. Bruce Ursin officiating, and eulogy given by Rev. Tim Kelly. Interment was in the Garden of Memories in Waterloo, with Military Honors by the Cedar Falls AMVETS Post #49. Ed was born April 14, 1920, in Rolfe, the son of Ernest M. and Bertha E. (Stinson) Smith. He served his country in the United States Army during WWII. On September 30, 1943, he was united in marriage to Maxine Mann in Waterloo. She died July 6, 1982. He then married Alice Kiewiet on January 15, 1983, in Cedar Falls. She died March 3, 2001. Ed was employed at Blacks Department Store in Waterloo from 1946 until his retirement in 1980. He is survived by his three daughters , Linda (Jerell) Janssen and Nancy (Mark) Kelley, both of Cedar Falls, and Janet (Jerry) Rasmussen of Waterloo; daughter-in-law, Mona K. Smith of Elizabeth, Colo.; three step-sons, Ronald Kiewiet of Waterloo, and Craig (Mary) Kiewiet and Kurt Kiewiet, both of Cedar Falls. There are 12 grandchildren and 13 great- grandchildren. Also surviving are sisters, Ione Ott of Pocahontas, and Donna (Virgil) Behrendsen of Gilmore City; sisters-in-law, Arlene (Bob) Kelly of Windsor Heights, Beverly Smith of Waterloo, Frances Smith of Rolfe, and Marcella (Smith) Schoberg of Pocahontas. He was preceded in death by his parents; both wives; a son Stuart "Stu" Smith; six brothers, George, Glyde, Ernest Jr., Clifford, Marvin Lee and Ray Smith; and three sisters, Flossie Mae, Manna Lea, and Betty.
