ALAN SIMONSON Des Moines -- Alan Simonson, age 76, died on June 25, 2003, at his home in Des Moines, Iowa. Funeral services were held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Rolfe on Saturday, June 28, at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. David Peterson officiating. Interment was in Clinton-Garfield Cemetery, Rolfe. Survivors include his wife, Jane Simonson of Des Moines; son, Greg (Shirley) Simonson of Des Moines; grandchildren, Matt and Brian Simonson, Chad Allen and Steven Moore; son-in-law, Jerry Moore of Des Moines and sister, Esther Larson of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Alan was preceded in death by his parents; son, Alan Voss; daughter, Lori Moore; and brothers, Gene and Lowell Simonson. Elmer Alan Simonson was born near Plover on March 3, 1927. He was the son of Elmer and Lillie (Spangler) Simonson. Alan was educated at Plover and graduated from Plover High School. He served in the U. S. Navy from 1944 to 1947 in the Pacific Theater. After his discharge, Alan returned to the Plover area. On September 23, 1951, Alan married Jan Johnson at San Francisco, California. In 1954, they moved to Des Moines. Alan worked as a machinist for John Deere in Ankeny until his retirement in 1987. Alan was a member of the Capital City Lutheran Church and a lifetime member of the V.F.W. In his spare time, Alan enjoyed fishing, watching sports, and he loved to play pool. He had also earned his personal pilots license.
