LOWELL F. SHELGREN Gilmore City -- Lowell Freeburg Shelgren, of Gilmore City, passed away April 29, 2003, at South Care Center in Humboldt. Services were 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 2 at Faith United Methodist Church, Gilmore City, with the Rev. Kirk Stump officiating. Lowell Freeburg Shelgren was born May 34, 1929, to Helmer R. and Meda E. (Freeburg) Shelgren at the family farm. He served in the U.S. Army in Korea from Sept. 11, 1951 to Sept. 5, 1953. He married Joan Enockson on March 14, 1954, in Ottosen. After the marriage the couple lived and farmed in Gilmore City. He had farmed since 1946, retiring in 2000. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Joan; daughter Mary Gonsior, husband Pat, and children, Kevin and Kelly, Loveland, Colo.; son Keith Shelgren, wife Ardis, and children, Steven and David, Rolfe; daughter Kathryn Woods, husband Rod, and children, Meghan and Matt, West Des Moines, son Michael Shelgren, Humboldt; daughter Jennifer Petersmeyer, husband David, Savage, Minn., and sister Inez Shirley. He was preceded in death by parents, Helmer R. and Meda E. (Freeburg) Shelgren, daughter, Susan Renee, and sister, Betty. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, served on the Gilmore City Co-op Board for a number of years, member of Hartnett-Johnson American Legion, Farm Service Agency board for 20 years, and member of the Rolfe Country Club.
