Obituary ROBERT L. SERNETT POCAHONTAS — Robert L. Sernett, age 90, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2006, at the Rolfe Care Center in Rolfe, Iowa. Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 1, 2006, at the Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church in Pocahontas with Msgr. Michael Sernett and Fr. Merle Kollasch officiating. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery in Pocahontas, Iowa. Visitation was from 4 to 8 p.m. August 31, 2006 (Thursday) at the Powers Funeral Home in Pocahontas, Iowa, and one hour prior to services at the church. There was a rosary at 5 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., both at the funeral home. Survivors include his wife, Monica; children, Marilyn (Dennis) Jackson of Naples, Fla., Msgr. Michael Sernett of Sioux City, Elaine Colee of Pocahontas and Diane (Donald) Spitzley of Detroit Lakes, Minn.; 18 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Charles; and sister, Stella Sawyer. Robert Lyle Sernett was born Feb. 22, 1916, near Pocahontas, Iowa. He was the son of Louis and Mary (Langer) Sernett. He attended country school in Roosevelt Township near Pocahontas. On Sept. 12, 1938, Robert married Monica Hronek at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church in Rolfe. The couple settled on the family farm near Pocahontas. They retired in 1979 and moved into Pocahontas in 1989. In January 2004, they entered the Rolfe Care Center. Bob was a member of the Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church. He enjoyed fishing and dancing and he especially loved living on the farm.
