LENA ROACH

Gilmore City - Lena Anna Roach, 86, died March 20, 2004 at Pocahontas Manor, Pocahontas. Services were held 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 23, at First Lutheran Church, Gilmore City, with the Rev. Ray Block officiating. Burial was in Marble Valley Cemetery, Gilmore City.

Lena Roach, the daughter of William and Rena Roach, was born Nov. 5, 1917, in Lake Township, Pocahontas County. She was baptized in 1917 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Lizard Township. She was educated and graduated from the Rolfe High School and later graduated from Wartburg College in Waverly with a Bachelors Degree in education. Lena taught school in the Rolfe and Pocahontas school systems during her life.

Lena was a member of First Lutheran Church in Gilmore City where she taught Sunday school for many years. She also spent much time visiting the sick and elderly in the area. Preceding Lena in death were her parents, William and Rena (Assing) Roach.

Survivors include her cousins, Alvin Ennen of Gilmore City, George Ennen of Ashton, Ill., Ruth Sehikowski of Collenville, Ill., and Johnny Kelley.
