REV. DAVID L. PETERSON Palmer — The Reverend David L. Peterson, 59, of Palmer, passed away in his home on August 27, 2004 following a battle with cancer. A memorial service was held at 11 am. on Saturday, September 4 at St. John Lutheran Church, rural Palmer, with Bishop Michael Last officiating. Visitation was from 3-5 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 3 at Larson-Weishaar Funeral Home in Manson. The body was donated to the University of Iowa. David L. Peterson was born on September 23, 1944 to Luther and Fern Peterson of Gowrie. He graduated from Prairie-View High School (Gowrie) in 1962 and earned degrees from Fort Dodge Community College in 1964, Augustana College (Rock Island, Ill.) in 1966 and the Lutheran School of Theology (Chicago) in 1970. On June 11, 1966, he was united in marriage to Marlene Targgart of Callender. They had two children. They were divorced in 1989. Later he was married briefly to Jolene Peters. David was active in sports, playing catcher in Little League and excelling in track in high school. As an adult, he was an avid sports fan and a loyal supporter of local high school teams. Pastor Peterson was ordained on June 21, 1970, at Zion Lutheran Church in his hometown of Gowrie and served parishes in Kimballton (Immanuel), Camanche (Immanuel), rural Palmer (St. John), and Rolfe (St. Paul). David is survived by a son Soren (Marcela) of Denver, Cob.; a daughter Karma (William) Sloop of Shellsburg and their sons Owen and Julius; brothers Gary (Marilyn) of Omaha, Neb. and Lloyd of Eagle, Idaho; and special friend Marilyn Poppen, who was by his side before and during his illness. David was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Gene of Gooding, Idaho.
