FLOYD L. McVAY Rolfe — Floyd L. McVay, age 87, of Rolfe, passed away on Saturday, July, 2008, at his home in Rolfe. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 23, 2008, at Powers Funeral Home in Rolfe with Pastor Charles Miller officiating. Burial was at Clinton-Garfield Cemetery, Rolfe with military rites given by American Legion Post #25 of Rolfe. Floyd Lewis McVay was born October 1, 1920 at Whittemore. He was the son of Jonathan and Mamie (Benson) McVay. He attended school in the Algona - Fenton area. He served three years in the Army Air Corps during WW II. He served in London and Germany. Following his military service he worked as a mechanic at the Ford Garage in Algona. Floyd met Evelyn Peterson in 1946, the couple were united in marriage on June 18, 1950 at the United Presbyterian. Church in Rolfe. Floyd and Evelyn lived in. Algona until 1954 when they moved to the Rolfe area. In 1961, they moved into Rolfe. Floyd worked as a truck driver, hauling gravel and dirt and then went into the landscaping business, doing dozer work, digging graves, moving snow and plowing gardens. Floyd and Evelyn celebrated their 58th Anniversary this past June. Floyd's favorite hobbies were riding. bikes, dancing, tractors, horses and his dogs. Floyd is survived by his wife, Evelyn of Rolfe; one sister; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and several brothers and sisters.
