RUSSELL A. LANNING

Rolfe — Russell Arthur Lanning passed away at his home in Rolfe on the evening of January 24, 2006, at the age of 82. Funeral services were held Saturday, January 28, 2006, at 1:00 p.m. at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt, with the Rev. Charles Miller officiating.

Russell Arthur Lanning, the son of William and Mildred (Cran) Lanning, was born January 26, 1923, in Humboldt County. He attended school at Bradgate where he excelled in athletics. Following his education, he began farming and was drafted into the United States Army during World War II. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Harris on July 1, 1945, and the couple farmed in the Gilmore City and Dayton areas for 20 years. In 1964 the couple made their home at Rolfe where Russ was employed at the Bradgate Elevator until his retirement in 1986. In their retirement, Russ and Dorothy continued to maintain their home in Rolfe, and wintered in Arizona.

Russell was a member of the Shared Ministries Church of Rolfe. He was an avid reader of history and enjoyed playing pool. He and Dorothy traveled extensively, enjoyed dancing and loved spending time with their grandchildren.

He Is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Rolfe; children and their spouses, Randy and Nancy Lanning of South Sioux City, Nebraska, Debbie and Tim Clearwater of Grand Junction, Colorado, and Cynthia Lanning of Badger; grandchildren. Brian Bennett, Bradley Bennett, Greg Lanning, Julie Lanning, Nick Clearwater, and Kiel Clearwater; great-grandchildren, Carter, Julee, Cooper, Cole, Zachery and Cassie; and brothers: Stanley of Spencer, Gordon of Gilmore City, Richard of Rutland, and Perry of Story City.

He was preceded In death by his parents and brother, Eugene.
