LAWRENCE D. HENDERSON

Pocahontas — Lawrence D. Henderson, age 79, of Pocahontas, formerly of Rolfe, died on April 20, 2005, at the Pocahontas Community Hospital.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 23, at the Hope United Methodist Church in Plover, with the Rev. Thorne Wittstruck and the Rev. Roger Kurtenbach officiating. Burial was in Powhatan Cemetery near Plover.

Lawrence Henderson was born May 18, 1925, near Plover, the son of William Harvey and Frieda (Phillips) Henderson. He attended Plover school and started farming with his father near Plover. On Nov. 14, 1949, Lawrence was united in marriage with Doris McKim in Plover. In 1954, they moved to Rolfe and continued farming until 1997. Lawrence and Doris moved to Pocahontas in 1996. Since retiring from farming in 1997, he has enjoyed creating stain glass items and spending time with his grandchildren. Lawrence was a 50+ year member of the Masonic Lodge. He was a member of the Rolfe United Methodist Church and Rolfe Lions Club during their years in Rolfe. He was currently a member of Hope United Methodist Church in Plover.

He is survived by his wife Doris; two children and their spouses, Allen and Deb Henderson, Grinnell, and Connie and Larry Boyd, Fort Dodge; six grandchildren, Lori Bland, Julie Walker, Blake and Cole Henderson and Leah and Lucas Boyd; twin brother Leonard, Plover; sister Harriett Moore, Shell Rock; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by a daughter, his parents, brothers, Wayne and Richard and sisters, Loraine and Wilna.
