JANET L. GRELL

GILMORE CITY- Janet Lee Grell, 64, Washta, formerly of Gilmore City, died Tuesday, July 18, 2000, at her home following a long illness.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church, Holstein, with the Rev. Judith A. Piper officiating. Burial will be in Cushing Cemetery, Cushing. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 8 P.M. today at Barker Funeral Home, Holstein. The family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m.

Survivors include husband Joseph; daughters Jody Parker, Anton, and Jeri Johannsen, Sutherland; son Jed Grell, Washta; seven grandchildren; brothers Dave Shelgren, Springfield, Ore., and Eddie Shelgren, Humboldt; sisters Pat Daughenbaugh, Chino, Calif., Ester Mae Sinek, Rolfe, Shirley Nielsen, Humboldt, and Nancy Martin, Rolfe; half-brother Gordon Shelgren, Pittsburg, Calif.; and half-sister Edna DeVine, Sioux Falls, S.D. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Ethel McBride Shelgren.

Janet Lee Shelgren was bom Aug. 31, 1935, in Gilmore City. She was raised in the Gilmore City and Rolfe areas, graduating from Rolfe High School in 1953. She attended college at the University of Northern Iowa and Buena Vista. In 1962, she married Joseph Grell in Rolfe. They farmed in the Washta area, and she taught school.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Holstein, and the United Methodist Women and also taught Sunday school. She was also a member of Douglas Homemakers, Nacirema, and neighborhood card clubs.
