Obituary MADGE L. GIRARD Madge L. Girard, age 96, died on September 28, 2000, at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital in Humboldt. Funeral services were held on October 2, at the Shared Ministry of Rolfe. Burial was in Clinton-Garfield Cemetery at Rolfe. Madge Lula Clark was born on July 25, 1904, at Granger. She was the daughter of Edward and Dora (Hotchkiss) Clark. In 1909, her family moved to Lemmon, SD. Madge was educated in area country schools and graduated from Lemmon High School in 1923. In 1925, she married Hamilton Eugene Girard in Aberdeen, SD. The couple moved to Des Moines in 1939, and then to Rolfe in 1943. They operated a Super Valu grocery store in Rolfe for many years. Hamilton died in 1951, and Madge continued to make her home in Rolfe until 1997, when she moved to Humboldt. Madge was a member of the Methodist Church, now the Shared Ministry of Rolfe. In her spare time she enjoyed craftwork, ceramics and tending her garden. Survivors include her son: Joe (Martha) Girard of Iowa Falls; six grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; one great- great-grandson; son-in-law: Ed Freese of Atlantic and several nieces and nephews. Madge was preceded in death by her parents, husband Hamilton E. Girard, daughter, Beverly Freese, brothers, Harry and Avery and sister, Clara.
