Obituary
JEANIE MC EWEN GEHRT Mallard - Jeanie McEwen of Mallard, Iowa, and formerly of Duluth, Minnesota, died January 30, 2003, in the Emmetsburg Care Center, where she had lived the last three years. There was a celebration of her life at the Mallard United Methodist Church on Monday, February 3, at 1:30 p.m. with the Revs. Shirley Textor and Jim Morris officiating. Mrs. Gehrt is survived by a daughter Judy Jo Heverly of Portland, Oregon; a son James Lynn Gehrt of Mallard, Iowa; two sisters, Mary Nelson of Rolfe, Iowa, and Grace Steiner of Newton, Iowa; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Mrs. Gehrt was born October 30, 1909, in Plover, Iowa, the daughter of Minnie and Joseph McEwen. She was educated in the Rolfe schools, Francis Shimer College and the University of Iowa. She was an educator in the Des Moines Township Schools. She married Jerome M. Gerht in 1933. After 60 years of marriage, Jerry predeceased her in 1993 in Duluth.
