Obituary MARY ISABELLE CHAMBERS FLANIGAN Isabelle Flanigan died of cancer on July 3, 2007 at her home in Columbia, South Carolina, at the age of 81. She was born in Pocahontas, Iowa, on June 24, 1926, and moved at the age of 2 to a farm southeast of Rolfe. Her parents were Earl L. and Pearl Sandvig Chambers. She attended kindergarten in Rolfe, then country school, and graduated from Rolfe High School in 1943. She attended Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and graduated in geology from the University of Colorado in Boulder, CO. In 1947 she married Lloyd J. Flanigan who preceded her in death in June, 1995. She lived in Riverside, California, for over 50 years, moving in 2004 to South Carolina to be near one of her daughters. Isabelle was a life-long member of the United Methodist Church. She supported many charitable organizations including Habitat for Humanity, Meals on Wheels, and the Stephens Ministry. She was a teacher in the Riverside Public Schools until her retirement. She is survived by her daughters, Susan (John) Ureda of Columbia, SC, and Patricia Flanigan of Laguna Niguel, California, grandsons Cale Ureda of Columbia, SC, Kent Ureda of Chicago, Illinois, and Alex and Gabriel Sanchez of Laguna Niguel, California. Also surviving are her sister, Fran Measom of Jackson, Wyoming, brothers Elwood (Judy) Chambers of Huntington Beach, California, and Garland (Bonny) Chambers of Ruthven, Iowa, and Cathedral City, California, and a number of nieces and nephews. Instead of a funeral her sister, brothers, grandsons and other relatives went to South Carolina to visit her in her last weeks of life.
