BLANCHE DEWOLF

Blanche DeWolf, age 98, of Pocahontas, passed away Wednesday, October 6, 2010, at the Pocahontas Manor in Pocahontas.

Blanche Dunn was born December 6, 1911 in Condit Township, Champaign County, Illinois, to Raleigh and Hazel (Cox) Dunn. In 1912 her family moved by train to a farm northeast of Plover. She attended Plover school before moving to the Havelock area with her family where she graduated from Havelock High School in 1929, later entering nurses training and graduating from the Coleman Hospital, Estherville, Iowa, with the class of 1932. She worked as a nurse in Estherville, Council Bluffs, Windsor, MO, and Racine, WI.

On February 17, 1937, Blanche was united in marriage to Wesley DeWolf at her parents’ home. Wesley and Blanche farmed south of Rolfe where they raised their three children and lived for almost 50 years. Their son, Jack, was in the Rolfe High School class of 1956. Their daughters, Nancy and Linda, were in the RHS classes of 1962 and 1967, respectively.

Wesley passed away July 2, 1986. Blanche continued to live on the farm until 1998 when she moved to Pocahontas. In 2005, she moved to Arlington Place. She moved to the Pocahontas Manor Care Center November 2008.

Blanche is remembered for her love of nature, which included gardening and bird watching. She was an active member of the Rolfe Presbyterian Church and Pocahontas Presbyterian Church. The most important parts of her life were her faith and her family.

Survivors include son, Jack (Karen) of Rolfe; daughter, Linda (Don) Ferguson of Pocahontas, son-in-law, Benjamin West, Westerville,OH; grandchildren Michael DeWolf, Douglas DeWolf, Kathleen Sutton, Elizabeth Rupp, Kristine Spano, Douglas Ferguson, Nicole Bunda and Emily Seiler, 20 great-grandchildren, brother, Lloyd (Avis) Dunn and sister-in-law, Arlene Dunn. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wesley; daughter, Nancy; sisters, Verva, Julia, and Alma; and brother, Floyd.
