EMMET H. DeWALL

JULY 27, 1921 - SEPTEMBER 28, 2009

Emmet H. DeWall – age 88, of Pocahontas, passed away Monday, September 28, 2009 at the Pocahontas Community Hospital in Pocahontas, Iowa. 

Emmet Henry DeWall was born July 27, 1921, near Rolfe, Iowa. He was the son of Henry and Emma (Joens) DeWall. He graduated from Rolfe High School in 1939. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 – 1946 during WW II in the South Pacific. On September 29, 1946, Emmet married Henrietta Kramer at Pocahontas. The couple settled near Pocahontas where they farmed until retirement. 

Emmet was a member of the St. Peter Lutheran Church, he was a Sunday School Teacher, deacon, chairman and president of the Men’s Group. He served on the Farmers Elevator Board, Farm Bureau Board, county school board and extension. He was also a member of the American Legion and Lions Club. 

Survivors include his wife, Henrietta of Pocahontas; sons, Brian (Donna) DeWall and Steven DeWall all of Pocahontas; daughter, Rachel (Andy) Miller of Rockwell City; 7 grandchildren, Abbey (Ken) Turman, Brad DeWall, Russ DeWall, Matthew (Katie) Miller, Kelly DeWall, Brent Miller, and Lee Miller; and brothers, Martin (Lenora) DeWall of Pocahontas and Ray (Mildred) DeWall of Rolfe. 

Emmet was preceded in death by his parents, son, Allen; sisters, Minnie Lundberg, Henrietta DeWall and Anna Christiansen; and brothers, Walter and infant, Edward.
