GERTIE BOECKHOLT

Gertie Boeckholt, age 95, died on December 24, 2008, at Rolfe, Iowa.

Gertie was born June 6th, 1913, in Bancroft, Ia. She attended school at German Valley. In 1933 she married Art Boeckholt at Albert Lea, Mn. They lived in Swea City where they farmed until 1942, then they settled in the Rolfe area. In 1971, they moved into Rolfe where they owned and operated the Sunnybrook Cafe. Art died on February 16, 1993, and Gertie continued to live in Rolfe. She entered the Rolfe Care Center in June of this year.

Gertie was a member of the United Methodist Church and Women's Church Circle. She worked as an aide and later as a housekeeper at the Rolfe Care Center. She was an avid cook and well-known in the community for her caramel rolls. Gertie also loved to play cards and always had a "story" to tell. She was full of life and a friend to all. She loved her children and grand-children dearly.

Gertie is survived by her children Debris Hicks of Des Moines; James (special friend Doris Carman) of Proberta, Ca; Marian (Alfred) Tuma of Pocahontas, Ia; Wilmer (Betty) Boeckholt of Gilmore City, Ia; Russell (Carrie) Boeckholt of Gerber, Ca; Joan (Virgil) Dirks of Pocahontas, Ia; Joe (Carol) Boeckholt of Rolfe, Ia; Linda (Joe) Tiernan of Rolfe, Ia; 27 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren and 21 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Art, her son Raymond, 2 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, 2 brothers and 2 sisters.
