DON N. BEHRENDSEN

Rolfe - Don N. Behrendsen, 95, of Rolfe, died Saturday, April 6, 2002, at the Rolfe Care Center, Rolfe.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 9, 2002, at the First Lutheran Church in Gilmore City.

Survivors include wife Adeline Behrendsen of Rolfe; daughter Jane (Frank) Taylor of Brandon, South Dakota; sons, Mike (Joan) Behrendsen of Rolfe, Denny Behrendsen of Detroit, Michigan, and Dean (Sandy) Behrendsen of Gilmore City; ten grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and brother Clyde (Edna) Behrendsen of Woodland, Washington. Don was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Velma Doolittle, Bernice Lynch and Fern Higgins; and brothers, Raymond and Frank Behrendsen.

Don Nis Behrendsen was born January 18, 1907, near Gilmore City, Iowa. He was the son of Nis and Ida (Canton) Behrendsen. He graduated from Gilmore City High School in 1925, and attended Coe College. On June 11, 1937, Don married Adeline Weideman at Fort Dodge. The couple settled on their farm near Gilmore City until retiring in 1974. They moved to Spirit Lake until returning to the area in 1983. Don entered - the Rolfe Care Center in August of 2000.

Don was a member of the First Lutheran Church, where he served on the church board. He served as Garfield Township trustee, and on the boards of the Gilmore City Elevator, Rolfe Schools, and Pocahontas County Soil Conservation. Don enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing, and dancing.
