Just some catching up -- 50 years in 50 words or less.
After graduating from high school back in the Stone Age, myself along with my old buddy Harvey Applegate, joined the Air Force. We were together in basic training but after that they shipped us off in different directions. Harvey had all the fun. He worked on planes and I watched them fly over. We got out about the same time and then decided to go to airline school in Minneapolis to learn some skills in order to remain in the industry. After we got out of school, I went to work for North Central Airlines in Chicago, and Harvey took a job with Braniff, also in Chicago.
I worked in the airline industry awhile but for most of the past 45 years I have worked in the trucking industry in the safety area. I currently work for Tankstar USA as a safety manager. I have done a lot of traveling in my work and have gotten to see a lot of the country and many nice people.
I am now retired, but still teaching Defensive Driving for the National Safety Council and Operation Lifesaver.
I am also a Shriner where some of my duties are transporting children to Shriner hospitals in Philadelphia and Cincinnati. I am currently Commander of Units in the Ali Ghan Shriners of Cumberland, Maryland. Check out our website to see what we do.
I have been married two times and am still looking for "Mrs. Right". I currently live in Frederick, Maryland, about 50 miles northwest of Wash D.C, and just a few miles down the road from Larry Snook. I have a beautiful daughter, Kristine, with my first wife of whom I am very proud. Kristine has two girls and a fine English husband. She is a family nurse practitioner in the U.S. Army and has attained the rank of Lt. Colonel effective April 1, 2005. She is currently on her third tour of duty in Germany. Kris’ is the real thing.
I hold a title of Colonel because I am a Kentucky Colonel, an honorary commission from the State of Kentucky.
If any of you are traveling my way, please stop by and see me. Since moving to Maryland I don't get back to Rolfe.
To set the record straight, when I was in high school, Harvey and I lived right down the road from each other on the farm, and we were given a lot of credit and discredit for a lot of things. Well, all I can say is it was fun. It was just so long ago. And Harvey, he has been the best man at my wedding; two times! What a guy!
In 2008 I moved back to Rolfe and remodeled the house where my mother lived a half block west of the Methodist church.
