After graduating from high school, I attended Cornell College in Mt. Vernon majoring in music. On June 6, 1960 on the very day I graduated from Cornell, I was married to Sue Saliabury. For a brief time thereafter Sue and I lived in Nashville, TN and Delaware, OH before moving back to Iowa to Wellsburg where I taught vocal music. We lived there for a year before moving to Clarion where we lived for three years. After that we settled down in Bettendorf, where we live to this day.
I have taught vocal music in the Bettenforf area ever since with the exception of a 15-year hiatus when I was involved in managing and part ownership in the Northpark Mall in Davenport.
After that, I returned to what I like best, music and teaching, and since then I taken time to work toward an advanced degree.
I am currently in my 4th year as Vocal Director at the Orion High School in Orion, Illinois, where I enjoy my work. I have been a director of choirs in a few churches, and have been and am still active in directing Broadway musicals at the high school, college, and community theater levels. I am currently preparing for an August production of CAMELOT. I have been involved with 59 productions since college, mostly directing, but some acting and producing as well.
Sue and I will have been married 40 years this coming June. We have three grown children. The oldest, Polly Ann, lives with her husband and two children in Phoenix, AZ. The second, Gary, Jr., lives in Rock Island and has three children. The youngest, John, graduated from the University of Iowa and lives and works in Iowa City.
My mom and dad are both gone, dad having passed away just this last January. Before they died they had lived at Friendship Haven in Fort Dodge.
