50TH REUNION
ROLFE HIGH SCHOOL - CLASS OF 1952
From: Frank DeVaul
To all my fellow classmates; Greetings,
A short story of my life since graduating in 1952.
I attended Iowa State University receiving a degree in Forestry in 1956. In December of that year I was blessed to be joined in marriage with Joyce Hartmann, Class of 51. I entered the US Army in January of 1957 and spent most of the next two years at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. Our oldest daughter was born in October of 1957. Upon completion of my tour of active duty I took a job working for International Paper Company in Weed, California. Working for IP took us to three different locations in Oregon, to California and to Washington State. I worked for IP for 11 years, in different capacities in management of Lumber, Plywood and Millwork Factories. In 1960 our son was born in Eugene, Oregon and in 1964 our younger daughter was born in Mt. Shasta, California. In 1970 I left IP and starting work for a company named JELD-WEN. I was part owner and General Manager of the operation in Spokane, Washington. We lived in Spokane for 20 years then moved to Klamath Falls, OR in 1990 when I became a Vice President for JELD-WEN with responsibilities for a number of the Millwork and Door manufacturing plants.
In 1993 I started traveling internationally to oversee our operations in Spain. France, Latvia, Poland, England, Lebanon, Morocco, Chile, Argentina and Bolivia. In 1999 I was promoted to a Sr. Vice President with responsibility for our European Group. For the past two and one half years Joyce and I have spent a majority of our time living in England. I will retire from the Company on July 1, 2002.
Joyce continued her practice of Nursing for the first few years of our marriage, but became a full time Mom in the early 60s.
We both have been active in the local church where ever we have lived and have been members of the Lutheran Church for a good many years now. We have traveled a good deal and have been in all 50 of our US as well as the countries mentioned above. Joyce has been to most but not to South America nor the Morocco or Lebanon. We really enjoyed our time in Latvia, Spain and England. We met many very nice people and made good friends in all of the Countries.
When our children were at home we were active in school activities as well as serving on the school board. Our older daughter Debra is married to Robin Wieber. a Pastor at Grace Covenant Church in Austin, Texas. They have four children, one in College, one in high school, one in middle school and one in elementary school. Deb is a full time Mom as well as a local manager for Avon. Our son Frank, Jr. is married to Judy and they are in the publishing business in Chehalis, Washington where they own a number of weekly publications and a printing business. They also have four children, two out of school and two in elementary. Our younger daughter, DeAnn is married to Rolf Tangvald, an attorney who works for the US Justice Department in Spokane, Washington. They too have four children, two in middle school, one in elementary and one in preschool. DeAnn is a full time Mom and runs a book keeping and tax service from her home. In all we have three children and twelve grandchildren. We enjoy visits with them all each year.
In our spare time I have enjoyed reading, hunting, fishing and golfing the last couple of years. Joyce enjoys reading, needle work and piano.
We sure wish we could be with you for this 50th reunion but it just won't be this time. Hope to see you all at the next school reunion.
Our best to you all,
Frank and Joyce DeVaul
